Secondary Containment (Bund)
Environmental Construction Ltd can design and construct secondary containment (bund) taking into account the individual sites conditions and surroundings, supplying you with a bespoke bund to meet your demands.
All of our bunds are constructed to meet legislative requirements. Most authorities state that secondary containment should now be constructed of reinforced mass concrete (RMC) as shown in the image below. In our experience we find this type of bund to have the lowest risk of failure. However, it is not always possible to achieve therefore an alternative type of bund must be constructed. For example a double skin brick or block bund.
To make the bunds impermeable to storing content, we install a fillet to the floor/wall joints using a specialist mortar. Through experience this is the most common fail point so not only is the fillet installed horizontally on the base of the bund but vertically in each of the corners. We will also fillet if needed the sump of the bund as most of the time this is an area overlooked.
Once all fillets are installed we will then coat the bund with a protective coating. We use a polyurea coating that is impermeable to hydro carbons, chemicals and is 100% watertight. The polyurea is hand dry within 5 seconds ensuring you that plant downtime is minimised. Unlike your traditional methods of bund coatings where drying time can take up to 48 hours and preparation work even longer, The polyurea spray coating is not only time efficient but cost effective as labour time is reduced and the longevity of the bund is increased as the polyurea will outlast all traditional methods.
